Doesn’t that sound lovely, like a holiday in Hawaii or a Caribbean island? In Sydney, it is a way to get safely across a busy street. Pedestrians have the right of way only if there are crosswalks painted with wide white stripes. Everywhere else, cars have the right of way, and they know it! So, there is a little island half way across the street. Elder Kinghorn and I wait at this one daily. We live on Morts Road, which is main street in our community and the traffic comes whizzing past. The motorists are warned that there may be pedestrians waiting in the middle of the road with this sign. I have to pay attention when walking to the post office. Look to the right first!
